Carlux france12/8/2023 The village of Carlux is just a short 10 minute walk through the wood from the safety and sanctuary of the Gite complex with its carefully arranged set of 13 Gites all with excellent access and privacy. If there is something amiss all we have to do is ask. The owners of Iris, David and Sue who bought the Gite some years ago provide all we need and more to make our holiday perfect. We have just booked the Gite named Iris again for 2014 this Gite has arguably one of the best views of the historic and picturesque village of Carlux. Our 13th year spent holidaying in France at Les Gites de Carlux in the Dordogne. We found the gite well situated for the main Dordogne sites and enjoyed many day trips to several caves, a river cruise, gardens, chateaux's and other towns/villages although a car is an absolute must in this area. Some days we would all walk from the gite down into Carlux to visit the local stores, boulangerie etc which was great. There is a really nice, heated swimming pool too. Our young son enjoyed his regular morning walk from our gite to collect breakfast of fresh croissants and baguette from reception and he also made good use of the play equipment on site (various swings, slides, a wendy house and a little push-walker car that he became very fond of very quickly!). The site itself is also lovely, peaceful, well maintained with friendly staff. As one other reviewer has mentioned, the photos on the website actually match the reality which is very refreshing. and is in very good, clean order throughout. It contains everything you might need in terms of cooking equipment, cutlery, towels etc. The gite is well situated with a lovely, uninterrupted view over the pretty village of Carlux. Unfortunately the weather (mid-Sept) was largely against us which was a shame, but we couldn't fault our gite, or the gite complex and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We have recently returned from our stay in 'Giroflee', one of the 2 bed gites at Les Gites De Carlux, with our young son. The site is an ideal base from which to explore the wonderful Dordogne scenery and heritage. We have already booked to go back next year. The site manager, Julian, gives excellent guidance on facilities and activities in the local area, ie canoeing on the Dordogne river, cycling, restaurants etc and will happily book these on request. We especially liked the peacefulness and tranquillity of the site together with it's friendly but non-intrusive atmosphere. The gites and site are carefully looked after and maintained to a high standard and we have found both gites that we have stayed in very comfortable and clean, good family accommodation. There is a heated (May to late September) outdoor swimming pool which is a delight. The site offers a play area for younger children and outdoor table tennis and badminton for all ages! Also, a small shop opens in the mornings for bread, croissants and essential items. There are about twelve gites set amongst mature trees with personal garden space well provided for. This is an attractively situated site on a hillside overlooking the medieval village of Carlux. We have recently returned from our second holiday at Les Gites De Carlux and again had a wonderful stay.
